What to Expect During Your PET Scan Appointment

Many patients feel anxious before imaging appointments, especially if they are unfamiliar with the process. Knowing what to expect can help ease concerns and make the experience smoother.

During your visit:

  • You will check in and review instructions
  • A small amount of tracer will be injected
  • You will rest quietly while the tracer circulates
  • The scan itself is painless and typically takes 20–30 minutes

The PET scanner does not enclose your entire body, and most patients find the experience comfortable. Our team is with you throughout the process to answer questions and ensure your comfort.

After your scan:

  • You may return to normal activities
  • Drinking water helps flush the tracer from your system

PET imaging is a safe, important diagnostic tool that provides your care team with detailed information to guide your next steps.
